Dear Prairie Village Residents,

Earlier this year, ETC Institute administered a citizen survey for the City of Prairie Village to assess satisfaction with the delivery of City services and to help determine priorities for the community. This six-page survey was mailed to a random sample of households throughout the City. A total of 704 households completed the survey, far exceeding our statistically accurate sampling goal of 400. This high response rate illustrates that residents are engaged in the community and care about maintaining the high levels of service and amenities that the City provides.

While we continuously strive to improve, the survey results are extremely positive and we are pleased to share them with you.

Of residents who had an opinion:

  • 99% rated Prairie Village as an excellent or good place to live
  • 97% rated Prairie Village as an excellent or good place to raise children
  • 95% were satisfied with the overall feeling of safety in the community

In addition, Prairie Village is 39% above the national average and 32% above the Kansas City Metro average (includes Kansas City and Johnson County communities surveyed) in the satisfaction with the overall quality of services provided by the City.

From the citizen survey, we learned that maintenance of City streets, sidewalks and infrastructure, public safety, bike and pedestrian transit, and enforcing codes and ordinances are top priorities. There was also significant feedback about appropriately managing the teardown and rebuilds of our housing stock so that the character of the Village is not lost. Rest assured that these continue to be top priorities for the City Council and myself as well.

We are grateful for those who took the time to provide us with their feedback, and we will continue to strive to ensure Prairie Village remains a great place to live.

Sincerely,

Laura Wassmer
Mayor
