Chief Byron K. Roberson became the 7th Chief of Police in the history of the Prairie Village Police Department when he was appointed on January 4, 2021. Byron has served the Cities of Prairie Village and Mission Hills, Kansas, for over 25 years, starting his career as a police officer in 1995. During his career at Prairie Village, he has served as a Field Training Officer, Narcotics Detective and Patrol Supervisor. Byron supervised the Prairie Village Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) for ten years. Byron taught firearms and tactics for over 20 years and was the Department’s Range Master for ten years. As a Commander, he managed the Patrol Division and served as Deputy Chief of Police prior to being appointed Chief.
Byron holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Jackson State University, and a Master’s Degree in Administration of Justice from the University of Central Missouri. He is an Adjunct Professor in the Criminal Justice Department at the University of Missouri Kansas City. He is a graduate of the 369th Session of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command and also a graduate of the 269th Class of the FBI National Academy.
Major Eric McCullough is the Deputy Chief of Police and Investigations Division Commander. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, a Minor in Biology from Truman State University, and a Master’s of Business Administration in Strategic Management from Baker University. Major McCullough is also a 2018 graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.
Major McCullough began his career as a Prairie Village police officer in January 2003. He has served as a Field Training Officer, Detective, and was promoted to the rank of corporal in 2008 to the Patrol Division. In 2012, he was transferred to the Investigations Unit and was the supervisor for the Special Investigations Unit, where he conducted undercover narcotics investigations, until being promoted to Patrol sergeant in 2015. In 2017, he was transferred to the Traffic Unit as the Traffic Unit Supervisor. Major McCullough has also been a member of the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) from 2007 to 2020 and was the team leader from 2018-2020. He is currently the Commander of the CIRT team and he was promoted to captain in 2020, then promoted to Deputy Chief of Police/Major in March 2024.
Captain Ivan Washington is the Patrol Division Commander. He is a graduate of Mississippi Valley State University with a Bachelors in Criminal Justice, and a Master’s of Science in Justice Administration from Faulkner University. Captain Washington is also a 2015 graduate of the Northwestern School of Staff and Command.
Captain Washington began his career as a Prairie Village police officer in January 2002. He has served as a Field Training Officer, School Resource Officer and was promoted to Corporal in June 2006. He was later transferred and tasked with supervising the Special Investigations Unit were he conducted undercover narcotics investigations before being promoted to Sergeant in October 2012. As a Sergeant, he served as the Traffic Unit Supervisor and later in Patrol Operations. Captain Washington is currently the Department's Police Pension Board Trustee and oversees the Department's Peer Support Team.
Captain Adam Taylor is the Staff Services Division Commander. He is a graduate of Rasmussen University with a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice.
Captain Taylor began his career at Prairie Village as a dispatcher in August 1999. He served as a police officer, traffic officer, detective, School Resource Officer, Patrol Supervisor, and most recently, the Investigations Sergeant. He also served as a DUI instructor, a Drug Recognition Expert, and a leader of the Hostage Negotiators Team. He is currently assigned as a member of the Johnson County Officer Involved Critical Incident Investigation Team (OICIIT) and a member of the Metro Squad. He was promoted to Captain in March 2024.
