Junior Lifeguard- canceled for 2024 year
Have you thought about becoming a Prairie Village lifeguard but you're not 15 yet? Come test out the waters. The American Red Cross Junior Lifeguard program introduces youth ages 11-14 to the skills used to become a future lifeguard. This two week course includes developing in-water rescues, and an introduction to first aid, CPR, and AEDs. It's a great opportunity to hone your swimming and leadership skills in a fun and social environment. You do not need to be a member of the Prairie Village Pool to register for this program.
Cost:
$250
Prerequisites (which will be completed on day 1):
- Swim 25 yards front crawl while breathing to the front or side
- Swim 25 yards breaststroke while using a pull, breathe, kick, and glide sequence
- Complete the water competency sequence, which includes:
- Step into the water from the side and totally submerge
- Maintain position for 1 minute by treading water or floating (or a combination of the two)
- Rotate 1 full turn and orient to the exit
- Level off and swim on the front or back 25 yards
- Exit without using a ladder or steps
- Please wear a swimsuit,
- Bring towel, goggles and water bottle
- While participants will receive a certificate if they successfully complete the course, it does not certify them as a lifeguard.

Scholarships are available to qualified Prairie Village residents for swim lesson fees. All scholarship applicants will be required to provide the City with their previous year's federal tax return as part of the application.
