Animal Licensing
- Animal Licensing
All cats and dogs, six months of age and older, must be licensed with the City. The licensing process ensures that animals have current rabies vaccinations which must be current in order to obtain an animal license. Each household is permitted to have a maximum of four pets with no more than three of one species (dog or cat). Licenses must be renewed every one, two or three years depending on the license purchased. Rabies vaccinations must be valid for the duration of the license being purchased. If an animal cannot tolerate the rabies vaccination, a letter stating the intolerance must be provided by the vet.

If you believe you have been discriminated against, you may file a claim with the City Clerk’s office using this claim form. All discrimination claims must be filed with the City within 60 days of the last act of discrimination.

Join the Prairie Village Tree Board Wednesday October 2 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers to learn about Using Native Plants in the Suburban Landscape. The program will be presented by William Roth Gibson.
Gibson is the founder of Down to Earth Services, a company that is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of native plant communities. The company designs, builds and maintains landscapes working with native plants and sustainable solutions. Gibson also co-owns Green Thumb Gardens, a retail nursery suppling native plants to the Kansas City region. His background and education are in environmental history and political science. After receiving a dual degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia, he returned to the KC region and started his path as an entrepreneur. Gibson serves on numerous committees in the KC area including: The Kansas City Native Plant Initiative, Tree Champions, Heartland Conservation Alliance, Grow Native!, and his local chamber organization. He is a vocal advocate for changes in the Green Industry and workforce development.
During the tree seminar, there will a special presentation by the Tree Board recognizing Kansas State Champion Trees within Prairie Village and the people who care for them.
