The City Streetlight system was leased from KCPL until the fall of 2016 when the system was purchased by the City with bonds which were sold for this purchase. At the time all of the streetlight heads were upgraded to new LED heads. The LED upgrades improved lighting and reduced the cost of electricity. The system is maintained by a private contractor and upgrades are made as necessary.
