AUG 28, 2024 The contractor arrived this week to begin removals of post. The installation will be next followed by surfacing (new paint for the restored tennis courts) on September 9th.
JULY 16, 2024 The Prairie Village City Council voted on Monday July 15th to remove four of the six pickleball courts and replace them with one one tennis court. The tennis court will be striped for tennis and pickleball play. The discussion and vote can be viewed by selecting the City Council Streaming under the Governing Body tab. This work is set for September 2024 (sooner if contractor work load allows).
JULY 12, 2024 PICKLEBALL COURTS will go before the governing body at the July 15th Council Meeting. Residents living near Windsor Park provided feedback on the reduction of courts at a public meeting held mid June.
May 15, 2024 PICKLEBALL courts have been reduced from 6 to 4 after many discussions at the committee and council level. The Parks and Recreation Committee recommended the temporary removal of nets from the courts to observe and study the impact of a court reduction prior to making a final recommendation on permanent mitigation efforts. At the February 20, 2024 Council Meeting, the Governing Body acted on this recommendation and voted to have 2 courts open through the evaluation period.
March 22, 2024 RESTROOM IS NOW OPEN While delays continued throughout February, we are excited to announce that the restroom at Windsor Park in now open. New picnic tables under the small shelter will be installed soon as well. There may be a day or two when weather warms up that you will see the contractor on site touching up a few items.
January 5, 2024 Due to manufacturing delays, the opening of the restroom is now scheduled for late January/early February.
December 7, 2023 The restroom construction is scheduled to be complete and ready for use in mid-January.
Staff is engaging 4 vendors for quotes to provide/install acoustic fence at the pickleball courts. Presentation to the Governing Body of the sound study analysis can be found in the meeting packet for November 6, 2023 .
August 9, 2023 The restroom project was awarded to Combes Construction at the August 7th Council Meeting.
Construction is scheduled to begin later this month.
The pickleball courts are complete.
May 6, 2023 The sidewalk was constructed last year to provide a connection on the south side of the park to the courts. The Tennis Court contractor is currently working on the courts to overlay and surface (painted markings) for pickleball courts. In order to give each court the "aisle" required by pickleball standards, the courts will be completely transitioned to pickleball courts with 6 courts at this park. This work should be completed by mid June.
The restroom project is out for bid and we anticipate construction starting in the Summer with completion in the Fall.
BACKGROUND
This project includes the design and construction of a new permanent restroom project at Windsor park which will remove the temporary restroom facility. The new restroom will be similar in size to Wassmer Park and will feature an extension of the roof to provide park users with a small shelter area.
Unlike other parks, this restroom location is not as central to the activities in the park. Bringing the restroom closer to the front of the park allows for the additional feature of the small shelter area to act as an entrance to this park that has five access points. In addition, the location and orientation of the restroom allows for future solar power installation.
