Operation ID helps to deter burglars by using a specific number to mark your property.
Participating in Operation ID is easy. Simply engrave an identification number on your property. If it is later stolen and recovered by the Police, you will be able to identify it.
Residents may borrow an engraver from the Investigations Unit by calling 913/385-4608. Operation ID stickers are available from the Police Department.
Operation ID works! Burglars know if they are caught with marked evidence, it is solid evidence against them. In addition, many pawn shops will not accept marked items because they know these items may be stolen.
We also recommend to record the serial numbers for your property. Print off a Serial Number Inventory Form here. Fill out the form with your property's information and keep it in a safe place.
