Below is information about the requirements of the City's Massage Therapy Business licensing program:
- License fee is $40
- Applicant must be at least 18 years old.
- Applicant must provide proof of graduation of a massage therapy program by certified transcript of 500 hours in theory, method or practice of massage OR Proof of certification by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork
- Applicant must provide valid certification in American Red Cross First Aid.
- Applicant must provide valid certification in American Heart Association CPR.
- Applicant must provided a valid picture ID, such as a Driver's License.
- Applicant must complete 12 hours of continuing education each year.
- Massage Therapist application[PDF] must be on file with the City Clerk's office and permit approved prior to practicing massage therapy in Prairie Village.
- If conducting business from a commercial-zoned property, a Massage Therapy Business License[PDF] must be applied for, approved and issued by the City prior to the operation of the massage therapy business. The applicant will pay the fee for the Business license (fee schedule) but not the Massage Therapist license. The Building Inspector will inspect all new massage therapy businesses before a license will be issued.
- If conducting a home-based business, a Massage Therapy Business License [PDF] must be applied for, approved and issued by the City prior to the operation of the massage therapy business. The applicant will pay the fee for the Business license ($52) but not the Massage Therapist license.
- All licenses must be renewed annually.
