Skate Jam 2012

National Skateboarding Day

On June 21 (National Skateboarding Day) the Pilot Club of Lenexa will kick off a skateboarder helmet awareness event at the course behind Prairie Village City Hall between 3 and 5 PM. One helmets will be provided to a limited number of skaters following an informative presentation on brain injuries by Betsy Johnson from the Brain Injury Association, Cathy Cartwright from Children’s Mercy Hospital, and Dr. Richard Nudo from KU Medical Center. Skaters from Diverse Skate will be on hand to demonstrate some tricks and help skaters learn how to improve their techniques.

The Pilot Club of Lenexa, part of Pilot International, also works with KC Can, Johnson County Christmas Bureau, Shawnee Mission Medical Center’s Tiny Tim Gala, Meals on Wheels, and provide reflective stickers to grade schools in Lenexa at Halloween time. They raise funds by providing food and drink at Merriam’s Turkey Creek Festival, Lenexa’s Spinach Festival and other events, and selling nuts & candies in the fall.

Pilot International is a global organization of approximately 25,000 adult and youth members who are working together to improve the quality of life in local communities and throughout the world. Pilot's service focus is helping people affected by brain-related disorders and disabilities through volunteer activities, projects and fund-raisers.
