The Prairie Village Police Department firmly prohibits the practice of racial profiling or any form of biased-based policing.  We are dedicated to delivering professional police services, free from bias, ensuring that every individual is treated with dignity, respect, and fairness.  Engagement in racial or other biased-based policing is considered unethical, unlawful, and unacceptable.  It not only erodes community trust in law enforcement, but is also strictly disallowed by every member of the Police Department staff.

The Department is unwavering in its commitment to non-biased policing.  New officers undergo initial training on biased-based policing during their time at the Police Academy, whether in pre-academy or post-academy Departmental sessions.  All officers, as a minimum requirement, receive annual training addressing issues related to racial or other biased-based policing.  This training encompasses various aspects relevant to biased-based policing.

All officers and other staff within the Police Department are obligated to promptly report any incidents involving biased-based policing to their supervisors.  Supervisors play a crucial role in accountability for potential discriminatory actions, patterns, or practices by reviewing complaints, and reports, and analyzing data from traffic and pedestrian stops.
