The Peer Support Team consists of members of the Department, both sworn and civilian, who exist to provide Department employees the opportunity to receive emotional and/or tangible support through times of personal or professional crisis, and help anticipate and address potential difficulties.  Each member of the Peer Support Team initially completes 40 hours of training and continues to receive training throughout the year.  For more information regarding the Peer Support program and how it benefits members of the department, visit the First Responders Support Team website.

The Department Chaplains offer support to all members within the Department and provide support and spiritual assistance.  Our Chaplains are often around the station, go on ride-alongs, attend roll calls, and are a part of other events hosted by the Department.  Whether it’s helping with a personal matter or assisting with the emotional after-effects of a call for service, the Chaplain can be a great resource for each employee.

Law enforcement job functions require physical readiness. All Prairie Village police officers are required to be capable of safely and effectively performing all duty assignments without undue risk to themselves, other officers and the members of the public.  To promote both job readiness and additional health benefits, officers are encouraged to be physically healthy.

Officers are required annually to complete a timed obstacle course located at the Johnson County Police Academy. The course has been validated by an independent firm specializing in employee surveys and testing and assessment systems.  Members of the Department can also acquire additional benefit time by completing a more strict fitness test in the Spring and Fall of each year.

A Department psychologist who specializes in working with law enforcement officers is available and used when needed. The psychologist serves as another element of support for members of the Department.
