Home MenuOfficer Involved Shooting
In instances where an officer resorts to deadly force or fires a weapon, an immediate notification is sent to the Chief of Police and members of the Department’s Command Staff. This initiates a series of steps, including:
- In cases involving personal injuries or potential criminal charges, the administration may decide to activate the Johnson County Officer Involved Critical Incident Investigative Team (OICIIT).
- The Chief of Police and Command Staff conduct an internal incident review to contribute to the on-going assessment of policy and procedure best practices.
The investigation of critical incidents involving police officers from a Johnson County law enforcement agency is carried out by the Johnson County Officer Involved Critical Incident Investigative Team. Comprised of trained professional investigators from various law enforcement agencies across Johnson County, this team ensures an impartial and thorough examination. It's important to note that while the Prairie Village Police Department has members serving on OICIIT, these members do not participate in investigations involving Prairie Village or Mission Hills officers.
