The Kansas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (KLEAP) serves as the official accrediting body for law enforcement in the state of Kansas.  Administered by the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC), this program handles all administrative duties related to accreditation.  The Kansas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program is a voluntary effort aimed at enhancing professionalism within law enforcement.  It is tailored to align with local community needs while affirming a dedication to high standards in law enforcement practices.

Developed by law enforcement professionals, the program’s standards are crafted to be achievable for agencies of all sizes in Kansas.  Comprising 167 standards, including both mandatory and optional ones, the program outlines specific requirements that agencies must address.  The Chief Law Enforcement Officer of each agency determines how the agency achieves compliance with these standards.

The Kansas Accreditation Council (KAC) oversees and directs the program, convening quarterly to manage the accreditation process.  Agencies that demonstrate adherence to the KLEAP review, conducted by appointed assessors, receive official state accreditation.  Please feel free to visit the KLEAP website for further information regarding accreditation.

The Prairie Village Police Department is committed to professional law enforcement practices and is currently in the three-year self-assessment phase for KLEAP accreditation.
