Animal Licensing
- Animal Licensing
All cats and dogs, six months of age and older, must be licensed with the City. The licensing process ensures that animals have current rabies vaccinations which must be current in order to obtain an animal license. Each household is permitted to have a maximum of four pets with no more than three of one species (dog or cat). Licenses must be renewed every one, two or three years depending on the license purchased. Rabies vaccinations must be valid for the duration of the license being purchased. If an animal cannot tolerate the rabies vaccination, a letter stating the intolerance must be provided by the vet.

It is unlawful in the City of Prairie Village to discriminate against individuals in employment, housing, and public accommodations based on sexual orientation or gender identity. If you believe you have been discriminated against, you may file a claim with the City Clerk’s office using this claim form. All discrimination claims must be filed with the City within 60 days of the last act of discrimination.

Sons of Brasil

This group of native Kansas Citians plays nothing but Brazilian jazz, with a flavor and passion one might think could only be found at a night club in Ipanema or Leblon. The Sons of Brasil invite you to sample these sounds, which stem from their love and admiration of “musica bem brasileira.”
Back Alley Brass Band
5:10 p.m.
Back Alley is a New Orleans style brass band based in Kansas City, MO. Blasting onto the live music scene, Back Alley has quickly become one of the most sought after groups to play in every type of venue. These high energy players have a powerful sound that makes this the perfect band to perform where a crowd wants to have a great time!
Pete Fucinaro Quartet
6:20 p.m.
Saxophonist Pete Fucinaro, earned a Master of the Arts degree in saxophone performance the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and was a member of the seven-time GRAMMY nominated One O’Clock Lab Band during his undergraduate studies at the University of North Texas.
Pete was a semifinalist in the 2020 North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA) jazz saxophone championship and in 2021, Pete recorded a record entitled V1 with a co-led group called Vector Field including Ethan Ditthardt – guitar, Raul Reyes Bueno – bass, Alex Souris – drums), and Kansas City vibraphonist Peter Schlamb.
Adam Larson Band
7:45 p.m.
Adam Larson is an American saxophonist, composer, educator and author currently residing in the Kansas City-area.
Larson holds degrees in jazz performance from The Manhattan School of Music and was a part of the vibrant NYC jazz scene for eleven years before relocating in 2019. While a resident of the KC-Metro, Larson has held positions at UMKC Conservatory, University of Kansas and The Kansas City Art Institute.
Adam has recorded eight albums as a leader and maintains an active touring and clinician schedule, playing and presenting his original music.
Festival admission is $5 for adults and free for children under 18.
Blankets and lawn chairs are welcome.
Outside food and beverages are not allowed. Food and beverage will be available for purchase.
Service dogs are allowed for people with disabilities. No other pets, please.
Free parking at Shawnee Mission East, Prairie Village Pool, Mission Bible Church, and Community of Christ Bible Church. ADA parking and drop off available at Prairie Village City Hall.

JazzFest is just around the corner! This year's event is September 7, and it wouldn't be possible without the support of our many volunteers. Mission Statement
The vision of the Prairie Village Jazz Festival is to celebrate jazz music with the residents of Prairie Village and the surrounding areas of Kansas City. The Jazz Festival will stimulate awareness and promote appreciation of Jazz music – one of America’s original art forms – by bringing live entertainment to the community. This creative, energetic and culturally enriching event is presented in partnership with the Prairie Village Foundation and the City of Prairie Village.
