The Prairie Village City Council, through a Mid-America Regional Council funding program, has hired TranSystems to develop a comprehensive bike and pedestrian plan for the city. This meeting will focus on hearing from Prairie Village residents about opportunities, concerns or experiences in their neighborhood to improve safety and use of active modes of transportation. The meeting will also include educational information about the types of bicycle and pedestrian accommodations that will be considered in the study. The study is expected to be completed in September of this year.
Wednesday, February 21, 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Multi-Purpose Room, Prairie Village City Hall (7700 Mission Road)
Come and go style open house open to all members of the community
Please mark your calendars and make a point to attend an important open house/public meeting regarding city-wide bicycle and pedestrian accommodations in Prairie Village. The Prairie Village City Council, through a Mid-America Regional Council funding program, hired TranSystems to develop a comprehensive bike and pedestrian plan for the city. Their planners have worked with city staff, community stakeholders, and the public to develop a plan. This final public meeting will focus on sharing the draft of the final plan with the citizens of Prairie Village and registering their comments. The comments from this meeting will help the planners to fine tune the study and present a final draft to the City Council.
Highlights of the plan include proposed sidewalks, trails, and bicycle facilities. Sidewalks are proposed for a few key roads to improve accessibility for pedestrians and mobility aid users. A side-path trail is proposed to traverse the city from 63rd Street to 95th Street, providing connection points for regional trails such as the Rock Creek Trail and the Indian Creek Trail. Proposed on-street bicycle facilities include a primary network of low-stress shared roads with separated bicycle lanes on Nall Avenue.
November 7, 2017 - TranSystems has developed recommendations for the City Wide Bike/Ped Plan and the project advisory committee and made comments. Last week TranSystems submitted revised drawings. A second advisory committee meeting will take place in the next couple of weeks and after that a Resident Public Meeting will be scheduled around the first of the year. We look forward to getting public feedback on the plan. After the resident meeting the plan will be submitted to city council for approval.
